Manatees in power plant during cold front.
Dozens of Florida Manatees, Trichechus manatus, gather near the outflow of a power plant during a cold front. Nearly half of the endangered marine mammals spend winter around the power plants, a behavior passed on from one generation to the next. Manatees are very sensitive to cold water and weather and perish if water temperatures drop below 70 F for prolonged periods.
